Adult Cell Groups

Many of us live in a paradox: on one hand we are overwhelmingly busy and on the other we are terribly isolated. We expend so much simply "doing life" that we have little time and energy left over to actually be Alive. We wake up each morning with appointments to keep, calls to make, and tasks to accomplish, but we rarely give ourselves intentionally to others. But when can we? With so many demands placed upon us, when we do finally have some free time we tend to retreat from others rather than seeking to engage them. We have been given countless entertainment options that allow us to remain sequestered in our homes yet feel connected to the wider world. Anything we could ever want or need is now made available to us by the push of a button or the click of a mouse. We can literally go for days without having any meaningful interaction with another person.

Nevertheless, despite all that we have achieved technologically, despite all of the comforts and conveniences we have been given, despite every attempt by our culture to strip us of our humanity and mold us into machines; we still yearn for something more. We know from the depths of our hearts that there must be more to life than producing and consuming. There must be more than living a life of isolated busyness.

There is. At RiverStone Church, we believe that relationships are at the heart of life itself. We believe that God created each one of us for relationship - first and foremost to have an intimate relationship with Him through His Son Jesus and then to develop and maintain healthy relationships with others. Therefore, we strive to make relationships the heart of our church.

At RiverStone Church, we are convinced that the most effective way of building and maintaining healthy relationships is through cell groups. Cells are small groups that meet in members’ homes throughout the week. Each cell is made up of 6-14 people and is led by a shepherd. Cells have four functions: encountering God, building relationships, reaching the community, and developing leaders. However, cells are not merely just another weekly meeting, the essence of cell life is in the relationships built through the group. Being a part of a cell group will bring you into relationship with others who will walk with you through life, not just meet with you once a week.

A cell meeting will usually last from 1.5 to 2 hours and the typical structure of a meeting includes a time of fellowship, a time of worship, a time for discussion, and a time for prayer. For your convenience, we have listed all of the cell groups available at RiverStone. Note that we currently have four different types of cells. Sermon cells discuss material related to the previous week’s sermon. Word cells move systematically through either a particular book of the Bible or a specific Biblical theme. Topical cells are centered on particular subject matter, i.e. marriage, parenting, finances, or evangelism. Prayer cells focus on intercession and training in prayer.
